Collapse ▲I was asked how shallow could someone plant at this time of the year when the soil has plenty of moisture and warm temperatures are present this coming week. Certainly by planting shallow peanuts might come up earlier, but at this time of the year I think peanuts planted 2 inches deep will be up about as quickly as peanuts planted 1 inch deep. Also, when we plant shallow and soils get very warm and hot, liquid in-furrow inoculants are vulnerable. The bacteria that fixes nitrogen may not survive hot days and very warm soils when planted shallow. My recommendation is to plant at least 2 inches deep no matter how much moisture is present in soil and no matter how warm soils and air temperatures are going to be.
