Soil Testing Information

In North Carolina, most soils are acidic and low in nutrients. Good plant growth usually requires the addition of lime and fertilizer. Soil testing is the best way to find out how much to apply. The North Carolina Department of Agriculture offers soil testing and information for both commercial growers and home owners. Soil samples are usually analyzed within about a week, but may take longer from late fall through early spring due to heavy loads from farmers at this time. Hetford County 4-H'er competing in Archery

Hertford County 4-H'er Cas Castello is Nebraska bound. 4-H State Target Shooting Sports Team Invitational tryouts were held in October at the Millstone 4-H Camp in Elerbee, NC. 4-H Youth from across North Carolina arrived to showcase their talents and compete for a slot on a team. Thomas Chamblee received the Senator James D. Speed Achievement Scholarship presented at the 2011 NC State Fair. The Senator James D. Speed Achievement Scholarship is presented to a deserving NC State Fair Junior Beef Exhibitor, at 14-18 years old, in the Jr. Market Steer and/or Jr. Beef Heirfer competition.
